I am so excited that Spring is indeed just around the corner here (in Michigan, it shows up a little later than the calendar indicates). Spring also means it’s time for the annual Bloggers Best Spring Home Tours hosted by my Friend Kelly from The Tattered Pew. If you are here after touring Rachel’s home, The Ponds Farmhouse, a warm welcome to you, and don’t you love her Country Chic Style?
Modern Cottage Spring Home Tour

Spring decorating for me (and, in this case, our rental cottage) doesn’t mean bunnies and such. For me, it begins with a deep clean from top to bottom, switching out textiles, adding florals and plants to give it life, and generally lightening everything up after the long winter. I always begin with a fresh doormat.
Adding Natural Elements
Starting with our entryway, I add as much live greenery as possible. A branch from the yard (I love to add Forsythia when it’s in bloom)) or your neighborhood florist can make a lovely statement.

I also like to add live blooming plants whenever possible. Lately, I have been filling baskets with orchids from Walmart, and they bloom for six or seven weeks. A nice Springtime touch for $35.00

Lighter Fresher Colors
Besides changing out my pillows and throws, I also add lighter colors in the kitchen.

Colored Glass
In the Spring, I bring out the pretty colored glasses in pinks and greens, which feel perfect for changing seasons.

Including my favorite wine goblets in green. These are holding my favorite Springtime Sangria. Yum!

I have a small collection of colored bottles that I put in the bathroom window.

Swap out textiles.
I take this seriously! I swap out pillows, throws, and even a rug or two!
Here in the family room, we added this floral patterned rug. In the winter, the rug is an ivory and natural jute color, and this one seems to add a brighter pop of color to the space.

I switched out the forest green and cream pillows and bedding in one of the bedrooms for a fresh white and coral. I even changed out the art.

And in this bedroom, we added fresh flowers in the bud vase over the bed and switched out the bedding to white and pink.

Spring Scents
My other favorite thing in Spring is using simmer pots to freshen the space naturally. This one is easy and smells like you have thrown the windows open and let breezes blow through all day.

That’s it for my Modern Cottage Spring Home tour. I hope you’ve enjoyed it. Next up on tour is Cecilia from My Thrift Store Addiction and I know you will love her Spring decor. Make sure to stop by and say hello from me and check out the other amazing bloggers sharing their Spring decor!
