Hello!
So, I shared our big news here on the blog last week. We bought another cottage to renovate. Woot!!
I am very excited, and a bit overwhelmed as it is in the worst shape of any property we’ve ever bought (and we tend only to purchase distressed properties).
But on the bright side…it’s a tiny cottage.
Designing a tiny cottage kitchen
Before I share all the deets on the kitchen renovation, you are in for a treat. A few of my blogging friends and I are sharing kitchen upgrades today, so if you are here from Tammy’s blog White Lilac Farmhouse. A big warm hello!
Now on to those details. 🙂
Mood Board for tiny kitchen cottage
Layout for a tiny kitchen
The total square footage of the cottage is 600 feet, and we are running with that. Here is the space we will be working with. We will replace the current cabinets with cabinets that reach the ceiling. I plan on moving out the table and adding additional bottom cabinets along the back wall; open shelving will go above those cabinets.
When I say tiny…I mean it, and we will need mini appliances to make it a workable kitchen space.
I will keep the new stove and dishwasher white instead of going with stainless to bounce a bit of light around.
I already have in mind the exact version of the retro Smeg fridge that we put in our last renovation. We love how it looks and works (although very pricey). Maybe we will go with white or cream or even one of the pretty pastels?
Finishes
Because the cottage kitchen is so tiny, we want to make the finishes feel a bit more lux. A waterfall edge on the countertop? Marble backsplash? White sink? I am still working on those ideas. My love of mixing metals is still strong, so I plan on that. I will start with this beautiful faucet by Speakman.
Doesn’t it seem perfect for a cottage kitchen?
Adding pops of color
This tiny cottage kitchen will be anything but boring. I plan on pops of green, blue, and soft peachy pink for a cozy beachy feeling. I ordered this print from Artfully Walls, and it’s giving me all the color feels.
Statement lighting of some sort will help pull the design together. I am hoping to find a fabulous flush mount with great texture.
We plan on starting as soon as we wrap up the project we are currently working on, hopefully by mid-October.
Wish us luck!!
